Kupanda Academy

Kupanda Academy is a primary school in a remote village near Amboseli National Park, adjacent to Mount Kilimanjaro. 45 Architecture participated in a quick pro-bono design exercise in which we were tasked with creating schematic plans and renderings for a fundraising effort for the capital campaign. For the project to be successful, we were required to design with locally available materials such as block, concrete, stucco, plaster, and metal roofing. The project would be built in three phases, and consists of classrooms large enough for 20 students, latrines and hand washing stations, a dining hall and kitchen, a small library, and outdoor recreation areas.
