Big Sky Resource Recovery Facility
Client:
Gallatin County
Year:
2024
Commissioned by the Big Sky County Water and Sewer District, this project is designed to enhance the area’s capacity for wastewater reuse, addressing the growing demands of Gallatin County. This 14,368-square-foot facility is being reimagined to double wastewater capacity and prevent harmful algae growth. The design incorporates a new headworks pretreatment building, advanced biological treatment basins, and a state-of-the-art membrane treatment facility, alongside modernized existing structures. Before the Resource Recovery Center, Gallatin’s method of water management was insufficient for capturing the scale of the region’s growth. Now, beyond simply processing wastewater, this project enables the reuse of treated water for irrigation, snowmaking, and groundwater recharge. With the Resource Recovery Center, Big Sky can continue to grow without compromising its natural resources, preserving both water quality and the health of local ecosystems.
