Under the Weathered Sky Residence

Client:

Private

Set within an open Montana meadow, Where the Mountains Begin is shaped by the relationship between shelter, horizon, and home. The residence settles low into the landscape. Its composition of gabled forms creates a familiar silhouette while carefully framing views toward the surrounding peaks.

Weathered wood, natural stone, and dark metal give the exterior a grounded, enduring character. Rather than compete with the site, the material palette draws from it, echoing the colors and textures of the field, the mountains, and the changing sky. Generous windows bring the landscape into daily life, while covered outdoor spaces create a natural transition between the comfort of the interior and the openness beyond.

Inside, the architecture becomes quieter and more intimate. Reclaimed wood ceilings, warm textiles, and restrained finishes create rooms that feel both refined and deeply lived in. Each space is arranged to hold a view, capture natural light, and support the small rituals of everyday life.

The result is a home that feels established without feeling heavy. It is rooted in place, open to the seasons, and designed around the experience of living at the edge of the mountains.
