Tucked just blocks from Main Street, this historic 1902 home offered our clients something increasingly rare in Bozeman—the opportunity to live within walking distance of downtown while experiencing the character and permanence of one of the city’s original neighborhoods.
They loved the home’s historic charm, but the existing layout and infrastructure no longer supported modern family life. Rather than applying surface-level updates, the home was taken down to the studs, allowing for a complete reimagination of the 3,800-square-foot, three-story residence while preserving its original character.
The renovation focused on creating a home that feels both timeless and highly livable. Interior spaces were reconfigured to improve flow, maximize natural light, and create gathering spaces centered around everyday family life. The kitchen was designed as the heart of the home—equally suited for quiet mornings and entertaining after evenings spent downtown.
Throughout the home, historic details were thoughtfully preserved where possible, while modern systems, refined finishes, and updated functionality brought new life to the residence. Flexible spaces, including a third-floor loft, allow the home to evolve alongside the family over time.
Outside, mature landscaping and private outdoor spaces create a sense of retreat rarely found in an urban neighborhood, while the home remains deeply connected to the energy of downtown Bozeman.
This renovation reflects a balance we often pursue in historic homes: honoring what gives a place its soul while thoughtfully adapting it for the way people live today.
