Into the Woods Residence

Bozeman, MT

Year:

2024

Square Feet:

Into the Woods was designed for a couple who had a short list of ‘must-haves’ and only one rule: push the boundaries. Their must-have library, for instance, features a secret door, floor to ceiling shelving, and a window into the woods. Into the Woods nestles up into a forest of dense Douglas fir, on the edge of Bozeman where mountain lions and bears make guest appearances on the trail cam. Architecturally, the home takes on two expressions: one intimate and private and the other expansive and public, each separated by glass. On the intimate side, the rooms are smaller, the windows taller and skinnier to mimic the trees they frame. Whereas the expansive side features an open floor plan and views of Bozeman in the distance. The couple was looking for a design process rooted in trust and a forever home with bold vision that both they and 45 Architecture could be proud of—and they got it.
