45 Architecture & Interiors is proud to partner on the first significant renovation of the Strand Union Building (SUB) in years, a visionary project led by the Associated Students of Montana State University. This transformation aims to revitalize the SUB into a dynamic, student-centered hub that enhances campus life for all MSU students. The renovation will address critical maintenance needs, including long-overdue HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural upgrades, ensuring the building remains a reliable and efficient campus resource for years to come.

Our design approach prioritizes student engagement, incorporating expanded study and meeting spaces while opening up the basement for new student-focused areas. Improved entrances will create a more welcoming and accessible experience, while additional windows will bring daylight deeper into the interior, fostering a bright and inviting atmosphere. The project will also enhance campus dining and event support spaces, providing more options for students and organizations. Office spaces will be consolidated to improve efficiency, and the SUB Rec Center will be reimagined as the Bobcat Den—a vibrant, multi-use space designed for connection and activity. Through thoughtful planning and sustainable solutions, this renovation will modernize the SUB to meet the evolving needs of the MSU community while preserving its role as the heart of student life on campus.
